Elizabeth Joanna Mitchell (née Robertson), born on March 27, 1970, is a prominent American actress celebrated for her compelling performances, notably as Dr. Juliet Burke in ABC's acclaimed series Lost and as FBI agent Erica Evans in the reboot of V. Her filmography includes roles in The Santa Clause 2, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, and Gia. Currently, she stars in NBC's Revolution, produced by Eric Kripke.

Mitchell's background includes a supportive family; her mother, Josephine Marian Mitchell (née Jenkins), and stepfather, Joseph Day Mitchell, are both attorneys based in Dallas. After moving to Dallas in 1970, her mother married Joseph in 1975. An accomplished student, Mitchell graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting from Stephens College in 1991. She also honed her craft at the British American Drama Academy and spent six years at the Dallas Theater Center.

Her career includes notable appearances, such as her role as Dr. Kim Legaspi on ER and as Angelina Jolie's character's lover in Gia. In 2009, she was cast in the pilot for V, leading to speculation about her character's fate on Lost, where she ultimately returned for the series finale, earning an Emmy nomination.

Mitchell married actor Chris Soldevilla in 2004, welcoming a son, C.J., in 2005. The couple divorced in 2013. Notably, actress Elizabeth Banks changed her name from Elizabeth Irene Mitchell to avoid confusion with Mitchell.
