Joanna Firestone, known as Jo Firestone, was born in 1986 to Fred and Marilyn Firestone, a Jewish couple who nurtured her creative spirit. During her teenage years in Clayton, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis, Jo engaged in friendly baking contests with her peers, including the acclaimed pastry chef Claire Saffitz. In a memorable showdown, Jo triumphed with her St. Louis butter cake, outshining Claire’s elaborate $50 chocolate creation.
Jo has a brother, Ben Firestone, who has carved out a successful career in commercial real estate. After completing her education at Clayton High School, Jo pursued her passion for the performing arts at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, where she earned a degree in theatre.
