

Joanne Froggatt
Joanne Froggatt is an acclaimed British actress known for her diverse roles across film and television. She gained widespread recognition between 2010 and 2015 as Anna Bates in the beloved ITV period drama series *Downton Abbey*, a performance that earned her three Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2014. Following this success, Froggatt played Laura Nielson in the ITV/Sundance drama *Liar* from 2017 to 2020.
Froggatt's career began to flourish with her role as Zoe Tattersall on the popular soap opera *Coronation Street* from 1997 to 1998. She subsequently appeared as Ruth Tyler, Sam Tyler's mother, in the original UK version of the fantasy police drama *Life on Mars* (2006). Her film highlights include *Danielle Cable: Eyewitness* (2003), *See No Evil: The Moors Murders* (2006), and *In Our Name* (2010), for which she received the British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer. Additional credits feature *Filth* (2013), *A Street Cat Named Bob* (2016), *Mary Shelley* (2017), and the *Downton Abbey* film (2019).
Born in Littlebeck, North Yorkshire, Froggatt grew up in a family that initially ran a corner shop before operating a rare-breed sheep farm. She began her acting journey at a local drama group and moved to the Redroofs Theatre School in Maidenhead at 13. In 2022, she ventured into the apocalyptic thriller genre with a lead role in the Peacock series *Last Light*.
