He co-founded the Big State Productions Theatre Company, showcasing his talent in their original production, "In the West," presented at the prestigious Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. To avoid confusion with another actor bearing the same name, he adopted the stage name "John Hawkes."
Hawkes garnered critical acclaim for his role in the indie film "Me and You and Everyone We Know" (2005), which won the special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival and the Camera d'Or at Cannes.
