Larenz Tate
Larenz Tate, born on September 8, 1975, in Chicago, Illinois, is a prominent American actor known for his dynamic roles in both film and television. He grew up on the west side of Chicago as the youngest of three siblings. When he was nine, his family relocated to California, where his parents encouraged the children to explore drama at the Inner City Cultural Center. Initially, the siblings didn't take it seriously until they witnessed their classmate, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, gain fame from The Cosby Show. Inspired, they began pursuing acting, leading to Larenz's debut in 1985 on The New Twilight Zone.
Tate's early television career included appearances on popular series such as 21 Jump Street and The Wonder Years. He gained further recognition for his role as Willie Fuffner, the rival of Steve Urkel in Family Matters. His stint on CBS's The Royal Family, alongside Redd Foxx and Della Reese, was cut short by Foxx's unexpected passing.
In 1993, Tate's career took a significant turn when he starred in Menace II Society, portraying the volatile character O-Dog. This role showcased his talent and opened doors for more prominent projects, including the acclaimed films Dead Presidents and Love Jones. Other notable works include The Postman, Crash, and portraying Quincy Jones in Ray. Tate also appeared in Ashanti's music video for "Rain on Me," addressing domestic abuse themes. Currently, he stars in FX's Rescue Me. Larenz Tate is married to Tomasina 'Geneva' Parrott, and they have two sons, Myles and Zander.
