Meg Ryan
Meg Ryan, born on November 19, 1961, is a celebrated American actress, producer, and director. She embarked on her acting journey in 1981 with her debut in the drama film Rich and Famous. The following year, she joined the cast of the CBS soap opera As the World Turns, marking her entry into the television landscape.
In the mid-1980s, Ryan began to gain traction with supporting roles in films, including the iconic Top Gun, while also making a mark in independent cinema with Promised Land (1987). However, it was her role in the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally... (1989), directed by Rob Reiner, that catapulted her to fame, earning her a Golden Globe nomination and solidifying her status as a leading actress.
Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Ryan became a defining figure in romantic comedies, starring in beloved films such as Joe Versus the Volcano (1990), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), You've Got Mail (1998), and Kate & Leopold (2001). Other notable works include Innerspace (1987), Courage Under Fire (1996), and City of Angels (1998). In 2015, she made her directorial debut with Ithaca, in which she also performed.
Critics have often hailed Ryan as the "soul of romantic comedy," and many have noted her absence from Academy Award nominations as a significant oversight. Ryan was previously married to actor Dennis Quaid from 1991 to 2001, and they share a son, Jack. She later adopted a daughter, Daisy True, from China in 2006. Ryan's romantic history includes a relationship with Russell Crowe and an on-and-off engagement with musician John Mellencamp.
