She made her film debut in the 1986 drama *Emma's War*, where she portrayed a teenager navigating life in the Australian bush during World War II. Otto garnered critical acclaim with her role in *Love Serenade* (1996), followed by notable performances in *Doing Time for Patsy Cline* and *The Well* (both 1997), earning her multiple nominations from the Australian Film Institute.
