Stephen Colbert
Stephen Tyrone Colbert, born on May 13, 1964, is a prominent American political satirist, comedian, writer, television host, and actor. He gained fame as the host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, a satirical news program where he crafted an exaggerated persona reminiscent of conservative pundits.
Though he initially pursued acting, Colbert's passion for improvisational comedy flourished when he encountered the legendary director Del Close at Northwestern University. He began his professional journey as an understudy to Steve Carell at Second City Chicago, where he collaborated with fellow comedians Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris to create the critically acclaimed sketch series Exit 57.
Colbert's early career included writing and performing on the short-lived Dana Carvey Show, followed by his memorable role as Chuck Noblet, a closeted gay history teacher, in the cult classic Strangers with Candy. His stint as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart garnered him significant attention, paving the way for his own spin-off in 2005.
The Colbert Report quickly became one of Comedy Central's most popular shows, earning Colbert three Emmy nominations and recognition as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in 2006. His satirical book, I Am America (And So Can You!), topped The New York Times bestseller list, solidifying his status as a leading figure in political comedy and entertainment.
