After completing his university education, Speirs embarked on an acting career that has seen him take on a variety of notable roles. He portrayed Sloan in the fantasy film Eragon and Andy Fellows in the series Making Waves. Additionally, he is recognized for his comedic performance as Dullard, a "pathetic loser," in Ricky Gervais’s popular show Extras. His film credits also include minor roles in high-profile productions such as Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, where he played Captain Tarpals, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

In the comedy fantasy series Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire, Speirs played Loquasto, a bumbling servant from a pig-like race called Grobble. He often refers to himself as "Dullard" as a tribute to the character he feels resonates with him.

In 2013, he played PC McClintock in the holiday film Gangsta Granny, based on David Walliams's book, and took on the role of Dad in the 2014 adaptation of The Boy in the Dress, also by Walliams.
