Vanessa Williams is an accomplished American artist known for her contributions to pop and R&B music, as well as her work as a producer, dancer, model, and actress. In 1983, she made history by becoming the first African-American woman to win the Miss America title; however, her reign was cut short due to a controversy surrounding nude photographs that emerged soon after her crowning. Undeterred, Williams transitioned into a successful entertainment career, garnering nominations for prestigious awards such as the Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Awards.

Her musical journey began with the release of her debut album, The Right Stuff, in 1988, which featured chart-topping singles including "The Right Stuff," that claimed the #1 spot on the Hot Dance Songs chart, and "Dreamin'," which reached #1 on R&B and #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1991, her second album, The Comfort Zone, soared to the top of the Billboard R&B Album Chart, producing the hit "Save the Best for Last."

Broadway beckoned in 1994 when she made her debut in the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman. The following year, she lent her voice to the Oscar-winning song "Colors of the Wind" for Disney's Pocahontas, which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Williams made her first major film appearance in 1996 with Eraser and went on to star in several notable films, including Soul Food, Dance with Me, and Shaft. From 2006 to 2010, she portrayed the self-absorbed diva Wilhelmina Slater in the hit ABC comedy Ugly Betty. In 2009, she released her eighth studio album, The Real Thing, and in 2010, she joined the cast of Desperate Housewives as the wealthy and pampered Renee Perry.
