Bill Cosby
William Henry "Bill" Cosby Jr. (born July 12, 1937) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, author, television producer, and convicted sex offender. His career began in the nightclub scene as a stand-up comic before he gained fame with a leading role in the spy series I Spy, which aired from 1965 to 1968. Cosby achieved monumental success with The Cosby Show, a sitcom that ran from 1984 to 1992, portraying the lives of an upper-middle-class African-American family, which earned him the affectionate title of "America's Dad." Following the show's conclusion, he produced and starred in various other television projects and films. Cosby was also a prominent spokesperson for several brands, including Jell-O, Kodak, Ford, Texas Instruments, and Coca-Cola, from the 1960s through the early 2000s.
Throughout his career, Cosby garnered numerous accolades, such as five Primetime Emmy Awards, two Daytime Emmy Awards, nine Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002. However, many honors were revoked in light of serious sexual assault allegations against him, which came to the forefront in 2014, involving around 60 women and events dating back to 1965. In April 2018, Cosby was sentenced to three to ten years for aggravated indecent assault, but his conviction was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in June 2021, citing prosecutorial misconduct. After nearly three years, he was released from prison and continues to assert his innocence, while one civil suit remains active against him as of August 2021.
