A History of Britain (2000)
S2E3 Britannia Incorporated (1690 - 1750)
In the 1690s, England basked in the triumph of the Glorious Revolution, celebrating the reign of the newly crowned King William III. Meanwhile, Scotland remained loyal to the exiled King James II, grappling with dire poverty and famine. The relationship between England and Scotland was further strained by the horrific Glencoe Massacre in 1692 and Westminster's efforts to undermine the ambitious Darien scheme. Fast forward fifty years, and the two nations began to cultivate a cooperative alliance driven by commerce and mutual benefit, ultimately leading to the historic Act of Union in 1707.
