Kate Ashby, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide, was adopted by renowned international lawyer Eve Ashby and raised in Britain. Despite her efforts to move beyond her past, Kate's journey leads her back to the legal field as an investigator in Eve's chambers, alongside esteemed lawyer Michael Ennis. Tensions escalate between mother and daughter when Eve decides to represent a contentious militia leader, once a combatant against genocide, who has been apprehended in the Democratic Republic of Congo for prosecution at the International Criminal Court. Their relationship hangs by a thread as the case unfolds.
