Detective Inspector Alec Hardy, who is new to the area, looks into the tragic death of an 11-year-old boy in a coastal town, working alongside local officer DS Ellie Miller. Meanwhile, the boy's parents and other members of the Broadchurch community struggle to handle the overwhelming media attention that descends upon them following the incident.
