In the first of a three-part series, the Rangers pursue a notorious horse thief while Gus and Woodrow receive promotions to captain after their leader, Capt. Scull (Val Kilmer), leaves his team to find his cherished horse that has been stolen. Meanwhile, Gus attempts to win over Clara, a captivating local woman from Austin, while Scull's wife becomes involved with Jake Spoon, a young member of the Rangers.
