S3E2 Blood Sport: The Bondi Gay Murders

Mar 26, 2009 Season 3 Episode 2 Crime, Documentary

During the late 1980s and early 1990s, a chilling series of murders unfolded near Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach. Three innocent men were brutally attacked and hurled from the cliffs, victims of a broader surge in hate crimes as gangs roamed the city, targeting gay men for violent entertainment. Among the deceased was Ross Warren, a Wollongong newsreader who vanished in 1989 while visiting friends in Sydney. Initially dismissed by police as a likely accident, his mother tirelessly sought justice for her son. A decade later, Detective Sergeant Stephen Page took a fresh look at Ross’s case and discovered numerous inconsistencies. As he delved deeper, he uncovered alarming links to other murders, revealing a disturbing pattern of brutality. Another victim, John Russell, a local gay man poised to start anew, was found lifeless at the base of the cliffs, further highlighting the grave situation.
