In 1978, a sharp-witted telephone exchange supervisor made a chilling find at a rural homestead in New South Wales. While investigating complaints about the phone service to “Summerfield” station, located near Jerilderie, he encountered a troubling situation. Residing at the homestead were renowned shearer Mick Lewis, his wife Sue, and their two young children. After hours of trying to connect, a small girl finally answered, claiming her parents were asleep. When asked to wake her mother, the girl hesitantly replied, “I don’t like Mummy anymore ‘cause Mummy’s turning black.”
