Light Yagami, an exceptionally talented yet disenchanted high school student, unexpectedly comes into possession of the Death Note, granting him the ability to take lives at will. Seizing this opportunity, he sets out to cleanse the world of wrongdoing by eliminating criminals one by one. As the body count rises, the brilliant detective L is brought in to investigate, leading to an intense clash of intellects between the two.
