Maggie receives a clean bill of health from her doctor and resolves to head back to Bude, prompting PC Penhale to take extreme steps to convince her to remain in Portwenn. Meanwhile, while cleaning out a barn on the farm, Ruth stumbles upon a treasure trove of family heirlooms. The growing conflict between Martin and Louisa reaches a breaking point when she finds out he has arranged a date for James Henry's christening without discussing it with her first.
