In his quest to navigate the strange realm of "sound," Hyakkimaru sustains injuries during a confrontation with a ghoul. He is rescued and cared for by a girl named Mio, who tends to children left orphaned by the ravages of war. Despite his fragile state, Hyakkimaru senses the presence of a demon nearby and, driven by his mission, decides to confront it before he has completely healed.
