S3E11 Year of the Monkey

Jan 27, 1990 Season 3 Episode 11 Mystery, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Drama

The trio discovers a cursed tea set linked to a samurai named Musashi, a man of great honor. However, he won’t relinquish the antique unless they help him retrieve a mystical collection of monkey statues that embody the concepts of See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil. These statues are in the possession of a wealthy Japanese businessman, Tanaka, who has prospered because of their magic. As Tanaka nears death, he must use the statues to test his three children’s honor to determine his heir. While the two sons misuse their newfound powers and fail the test, they choose not to commit seppuku when faced with that fate, leading to their demise and revitalizing Tanaka. The daughter, who passes her test, is then forced to kill her father, but instead takes her own life. Musashi ultimately confronts Tanaka and cunningly lures him into killing the defenseless samurai.
