On Independence Day at the Billy Barnes Extended Care Unit, rookie nurse DiDi Ortley faces a messy dilemma on her first day. She finds feces on a lounge chair, caught between the demands of seasoned nurse Dawn Forchette, who insists on filing an "incident report," and Dr. Jenna James, the temporary medical director, who urgently needs a stool sample for her research. Meanwhile, supervising nurse Beverly Raymes, frustrated with ongoing cleanliness issues, wants the chair sanitized. In a heated exchange, Dr. James loses control, resulting in her being permanently stuck in this thankless role. Meanwhile, staff members grapple with the mystery of an Asian woman discovered wandering a highway and argue over what to do with a deceased patient's birthday cake.
