Lena Asayran, a young CIA targeter, uncovers a link between a 2007 attack on U.S. forces in Iraq and the agency's most formidable enemy, Imad Mughniyeh. She skillfully coerces an Iranian defector to shed light on the obscure beginnings of Imad's rise at just 19. In 1983, CIA officer Robert Ames is convinced he can pressure Israel into a withdrawal, paving the way for a regional peace initiative. However, Imad seizes this moment to orchestrate the first suicide bombing in the Middle East, setting his vision for the region directly against Ames’ hopeful aspirations.
