The law firm of Douglas and Williams is up and running, despite the sign showcasing Oliver Mendell Douglas (who eventually becomes Oliver Wendell Wilkie Holmes) as a partner. Incompetent secretary Lisa accidentally wrecks an office typewriter and connects the new phone to a fire alarm that rings loudly. To attract clients, she later promotes a grand opening event featuring free prizes and discounted legal services.
