Nick informs Mona that his parents will be visiting for the weekend and expresses his desire for her to meet them. This news makes Mona anxious, as she has never encountered any of her boyfriends' families before. Nick's parents are visibly displeased with the idea of him dating another black woman, leaving Mona baffled about their disdain. Seeking advice, she turns to Dee Dee, who suspects their prejudices are at play. After overhearing disparaging comments, Dee Dee suggests Mona confront Nick about the situation. Just as she prepares to do so, Nick surprises her with a proposal, which she happily accepts. While Phyllis, Dee Dee, and a envious Spencer feign excitement, they harbor concerns.
