S1E1 Episode 1

Orphaned and mistreated by her aunt Mrs. Reed, Jane Eyre is sent to Lowood School, where she endures hardship until she turns 19. After completing her education, Jane takes a position as a governess at Thornfield Hall, looking after Adele, a French girl under the guardianship of Edward Rochester, the estate's owner. Jane learns from the housekeeper that Rochester is seldom present. When she finally meets him, Jane feels a sense of belonging and quickly grows fond of Thornfield. However, her newfound happiness is disrupted when she is awakened by strange noises and discovers a fire in Rochester's room.
