S1E1 His Visit: Day One

Mitch Yost, once a celebrated surfer, now leads a solitary life. His son Butchie, who was once an exceptional talent, has fallen into the grips of addiction, while his 13-year-old grandson Shaun shows promise as a future surfing star. As Mitch cleans himself off near his station wagon, he experiences a surreal moment, questioning his sanity. Meanwhile, a newcomer named John checks into the Snug Harbor Motel, and Cissy finds herself in trouble with the police after a confrontation with a megastore worker. Shaun and Bill also make an unexpected detour on their way to a surfing competition.
