Episode Overview
Maddie organizes a dinner gathering to welcome Arlo's new girlfriend, Melissa (Lindsey Kraft), a graduate student from their building, along with her pretentious parents (Geoff Pierson and Valerie Mahaffey), who both teach history at Columbia. In preparation, Maddie spends the night glued to The History Channel, only to find herself stuck in a Hitler-themed marathon. Thelma plays the role of Maddie's maid, while Frank is tasked with retrieving Professor Danniker, Maddie's academic date for the evening. The night spirals out of control as Thelma consumes Frank's potent gummy candies, Frank ends up substituting for the inebriated Danniker, and Maddie fends off the flirtations of Melissa's mother. When Melissa criticizes Arlo's family and friends, he stands up for them, expressing pride in the lengths they go to support him.
