At 21, Meg Belding escapes her abusive father and starts anew. She finds work at the Bird Cage, where Lily offers her support. However, her father soon locates her and threatens violence. A compassionate man enters her life, offering protection, and they quickly fall in love, contemplating marriage. Meg's father vehemently opposes their union. To help her, Dan and Lily step in, doing everything they can to shield her from her father's wrath.
