In a bid to give back to the community while also keeping her sons occupied, Lois enlists Malcolm, Reese, and Dewey for volunteer work at a nearby church. Their task involves sorting through heaps of donated items like clothing, games, and appliances. Initially annoyed by the chore, the boys soon discover that the donations are far superior to their own belongings, prompting them to trade in their old items for the second-hand treasures. They even start a small business selling these goods to local kids—until Hal catches wind of their scheme. Meanwhile, Francis faces the reality that his dream job in Alaska isn't living up to his expectations.
