Kakashi reflects on his early days as the mentor of Team 7. Eager to understand Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura better, he secretly observes them to see how they interact as a team. Frustrated by Sakura's comments labeling Naruto a brat and suggesting he lacks guidance, Sasuke snaps at her, calling her annoying. Noticing Sakura's hurt feelings, Naruto steps up to confront Sasuke but ends up getting beaten in the process. The scene shifts back to the present, where Kakashi realizes it's his responsibility to intervene and prevent any further conflict between Sasuke and the others.
