Kate has nothing against Dan, Billie Jo's boyfriend, except for the fact that his mother is Selma Plout, her longtime rival. Their latest argument erupts during a meeting of the Every Other Wednesday Afternoon Discussion Club. While Kate is indifferent about the idea of Billie Jo and Dan potentially tying the knot, Uncle Joe suggests she should consider mending fences with Selma. When Kate tries to extend an olive branch, it backfires. As rumors swirl about a possible elopement, Sam calls Pixley and discovers that Dan has secretly married Emily Lawrence. In an unexpected turn, Kate and Selma find themselves comforting each other in tears.
