Billie Jo triumphs in a contest at her secretarial school, landing her very first job as the private secretary to renowned author Oliver Fenton. The globe-trotting Fenton is in Hooterville, conducting research for his next novel set in a quaint town, and has rented a local home. Selma warns Kate that Fenton writes "those kinds of stories." After reading one of his books, Kate becomes concerned about Billie Jo's new role. Uncle Joe insists Kate should trust her daughter. When Billie Jo meets Fenton, she realizes he’s just a kind, older man, dispelling her mother's fears. To test Kate's trust, Billie Jo decides to have some fun, prompting Kate to confront Fenton and discover her daughter was just playing around.
