Homer Bedloe makes a surprise visit to announce the appointment of Uncle Joe as the new general manager of the Cannonball, tasked with overseeing its operations. Uncle Joe quickly adopts a domineering attitude, ordering Charley and Floyd around, which ignites frustration among them and the entire valley. In protest, Charley and Floyd resign, leaving Uncle Joe to manage the train solo, a task he’s unprepared for. With Norman Curtis, the CF&W President, set to arrive for an inspection, Kate persuades Charley and Floyd to return, hoping to restore the train's efficiency despite the chaos caused by Uncle Joe.
