Kate secretly ventures to the bustling city without informing anyone in the valley about her true intentions. Upon her return, she reveals that she has made the decision to sell the hotel, having met with Mr. Holloway, a chain hotel owner, to finalize the sale. The funds from this transaction promise new opportunities for the girls. While the valley community feels sorrow at the thought of losing Kate and the girls, the girls initially express excitement. However, they soon realize how much they cherish their home at the Shady Rest, especially after Steve announces his commitment to stay. Kate begins to grasp the significance of their life in Hooterville, yet feels bound by her verbal agreement with Mr. Holloway. Uncle Joe attempts to sway her decision through emotional persuasion to prevent her from signing the final documents.
