Bobbie Jo is overjoyed when her poem gets chosen for publication in a magazine. Sam decides to feature her prominently on the front page of the World Guardian, which brings her newfound fame. This change in status influences Bobbie Jo, leading her to spend more time with Stanley Harper, a pretentious beatnik from the local coffeehouse scene. Meanwhile, Kate discovers from Steve that the Springdale coffeehouse isn't as inviting as she thought. Concerned for Bobbie Jo, Kate visits the café and finds a way to demonstrate that being a beatnik doesn’t necessarily mean one embodies true artistry or intellect.
