Betty Jo finds herself writing checks at a rapid pace while Steve struggles to keep up with the deposits. To curb her spending, they agree that she won't make any purchases for a month. However, Betty Jo secretly bought a massive sofa for $100 from Agnew's Furniture Store, which turns out to be a no return item that won’t fit in their cramped living room unless they demolish a wall. Kate convinces the profit-driven Mr. Agnew to take the sofa back for $90. Meanwhile, Steve wants to surprise Betty Jo with a piano and asks if he can break down a wall. Misled into thinking the sofa will fit, Betty Jo has Kate repurchase it. When Betty Jo learns of the piano, Kate has to return the sofa once more. Eventually, Steve discovers the sofa situation and instructs Kate to buy it back again. Ultimately, Steve and Betty Jo decide to keep both the piano and the sofa.
