In the year 1750, within the river area of The Gambia, Omoro Kinte and his spouse, Binta, welcome their son, Kunta. However, in 1767, Kunta is abducted and sold to British slave merchants. He eventually finds himself in Maryland, where he is bought by a plantation owner named John Waller.
