When Emery Whitehill was just six, an alien ship crashed in her town, leading her to meet Roman, a fellow six-year-old Atrian who sought her help before being taken away. A decade later, they are brought back together as the first group of Atrian teens prepares to enter high school in a controversial experiment aimed at fostering harmony between humans and Atrians. Both Emery and Roman are taken aback by the narrow-mindedness of their communities. Roman’s sister, Sophia, eagerly anticipates new friendships, while their Atrian peers, Teri and Drake, harbor deep mistrust of humans. The human students, particularly the popular Taylor, are equally apprehensive. Grayson, who is sweet on Emery, hides a secret that could jeopardize their budding connection. Only Emery’s friends Julia and Lukas seem open-minded enough to welcome the Atrians. As Emery and Roman grow closer again, outside forces threaten to keep them apart.
