Across the globe, individuals begin to have unusual experiences with mysterious new sea creatures. Among them is Laura Daughtery, a marine biologist and single mother based in California, Richard Connelly, a family-oriented fisherman from Louisiana working in the Gulf of Mexico, and Miles Bennett, a teenager in North Carolina who discovers one of the creatures' eggs. Their lives intertwine as they navigate the implications of these strange encounters and the secrets hidden beneath the ocean's surface.
