A math professor turns to cocaine to meet a publication deadline for his research. His girlfriend and fellow academic seeks William's assistance in intervening. Concerned for the professor's future—his career, relationships, and his immigrant parents' diner—William attempts to step in before it’s too late. At the same time, William’s son stumbles upon a used needle after a dinner gathering, prompting William to confront the fact that it belongs to his former sponsor. Faced with a tough choice, he must decide whether to sever ties with his sponsor for good.
