Following Japan's surrender, Leckie, now recovered from his injuries, departs the hospital and makes his way back home. Meanwhile, Sledge returns to Alabama, eager to reunite with his loved ones and Sid Phillips. Lena pays a heartfelt visit to Basilone's family, sharing an emotional moment with them. Leckie begins to readjust to civilian life by returning to his previous job and embarking on a new romance. In contrast, Sledge grapples with feelings of uncertainty about his survival during the war, realizing that his transition will take longer than expected.
