Plot

Two girls from Singapore, known as the Papaya Sisters, unite to create a vibrant getai group, performing during the festive seventh lunar month. Big Papaya struggles with her estranged mother’s disapproval of her passion, while Little Papaya, an orphan facing terminal cancer, seeks solace in their music. Supported by Auntie Ling and her son Guan Yin, the duo quickly ascends the ranks of the local getai scene, delighting audiences with traditional Hokkien songs. However, their newfound success triggers jealousy and rivalry with the techno-infused Durian Sisters, a competing group determined to claim the spotlight.
