Plot

Directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn embark on an exploration of heavy metal's global influence in GLOBAL METAL. Guided by metal enthusiast and anthropologist Sam Dunn, the documentary takes viewers on an exhilarating journey through Asia, South America, and the Middle East. Along the way, Dunn uncovers the vibrant and often underground extreme music scenes, showcasing the evolution of genres like Indonesian death metal, Chinese black metal, and Iranian thrash metal. Rather than merely adopting Western metal, these artists are reshaping it into a unique cultural expression, thriving amidst conflict, corruption, and consumerism.
