Plot

Set in 1939, Gracie Fields, celebrated as the 'Queen of Hearts', faces a challenging battle with cervical cancer while enjoying immense fame as a singer and actress. As World War II erupts, she bravely performs for troops, much to the concern of her husband, director Monty Banks, an Italian facing internment. To protect him, Gracie agrees to his move to America while she tours Canada for war fundraising. Accused of abandoning her homeland, she perseveres through adversity and eventually regains some fame, but the loss of Monty in 1950 leaves her forever changed, unable to reclaim her former glory.
