Melinda Howard, a talented singer returning from abroad, aims to surprise her mother, whom she believes to be a glamorous Broadway star living in a Manhattan mansion. Unbeknownst to her, her mother is a weary cabaret performer with a penchant for whiskey. Upon arrival, Melinda is welcomed by her mother’s loyal servants and inadvertently becomes involved in a ruse surrounding the true ownership of the house, which belongs to the benevolent Broadway producer Adolph Hubbell. As Melinda prepares for her stage debut and finds romance with a charming dancer, she grapples with her mother’s elusive presence.
