Moondance Alexander, a quirky teenager with an equally unusual name, spends her summer days feeling uninspired alongside her eccentric mother. Everything changes when she stumbles upon a stray pinto pony named Checkers. After returning him to his owner, the enigmatic Dante Longpre, Moondance becomes convinced that Checkers possesses untapped talent as a champion jumper. Fueled by her passion and determination, she embarks on a journey to train him, believing they can achieve greatness together despite the challenges that lie ahead.
