Struggling with the emotional fallout of a recent miscarriage, Paula becomes embroiled in a hit-and-run accident that injures a young boy. Consumed by guilt, she conceals the incident from everyone. Determined to atone, she visits the child in the hospital, where she takes it upon herself to aid his recovery, particularly in regaining his speech.
