Plot

At 99, Shadrach, a former slave, yearns to be laid to rest on the land of his birth in 1935. However, this wish poses a challenge as the property belongs to the wealthy Dabney family—Vernon, Trixie, and their seven children. Burying a black man on their land conflicts with the rigid laws of Virginia. As the family grapples with their moral and legal dilemmas, tensions rise against the backdrop of a changing society, forcing them to confront their prejudices and the legacy of their past.
