Waitress Jennie Hagen dreams of stardom, envisioning herself as a celebrated actress while she and her boyfriend, cook Orme Wilson, aspire to run their own diner. Orme adores Jennie but finds himself captivated by the glamorous lead actress Lillian Lyons from a visiting riverboat theater troupe. To reclaim Orme's attention, Jennie boldly decides to perform onstage, hoping to outshine Lillian.
